Seven months after the UK government signed a memorandum of understanding with OpenAI, a Freedom of Information request confirmed that not a single trial had taken place under the agreement.
Valliance submitted an FOI, and the Technology Department's response was unambiguous. It had "not undertaken any trials under the memorandum of understanding for OpenAI." Presented at signing as a landmark deal, the absence of any visible progress drew pointed criticism.
Valliance co-founder Tarek Nseir warned that the UK's problem is not ambition or spending, but delivery. "If the government's own flagship partnerships aren't producing visible progress, public trust will erode and businesses will hesitate," he said, noting that business leaders are watching public sector outcomes before deciding how quickly to move on AI themselves.
