The UK government's AI investment plans are, on paper, a step in the right direction. But I've seen this story before.
More access. More tools. More announcements. And then the same organisations struggling to turn any of it into meaningful change.
The technology is rarely the problem. Most organisations adopt AI without asking the harder question; does this change how we work, or does it just sit on top of how we've always worked? Real gains come from redesigning work around what AI makes possible. From measuring value beyond adoption rates. From building actual fluency, not just familiarity. Knowing a tool exists is not the same as knowing how to reshape your organisation around it. That's the gap these plans don't yet address. And until they do, "welcomed step" is about as far as I'd go.
